Not all massages do the same thing. A relaxing massage and a deep tissue massage are completely different treatments — different techniques, different target tissues, different results. Choosing the wrong one means spending an hour on something that won’t address what’s actually bothering you.
This guide covers every massage treatment we offer at Pepper Leaf Studio in Nenagh, so you can walk in knowing exactly what you’re booking — and what to expect.

The Treatments in More Detail
Relaxing and Holistic Massage
Both are full-body relaxation treatments. The difference is subtle: a holistic massage takes a whole-person approach, sometimes incorporating aromatherapy and a focus on emotional as well as physical release. If you’re coming in after a stressful week and want to genuinely switch off, this is your treatment. Available as a 60-minute or 90-minute session at Pepper Leaf Studio in Nenagh.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue work targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It’s used for chronic tension — the kind that’s been building for months, typically from desk work, sport, or repetitive strain. It can feel intense in places, especially where there’s significant tightness. Most clients describe it as a good hurt — discomfort during the session that becomes real relief within 24 hours. Available as a 60-minute or 90-minute session.
Hot Stone Massage
Heated basalt stones are placed on the body and used alongside the therapist’s hands to work into the muscles. The warmth penetrates more deeply than hands alone and allows the muscles to release more quickly. It’s ideal if cold weather makes your muscles stiffen, or if you want the most deeply relaxing session possible. Available as a 60-minute treatment.
Chair Massage
A 20 or 30-minute seated massage focusing on the neck, shoulders, upper back and arms. You remain fully clothed — no oil, no draping. Designed for people with tight schedules who are dealing with desk-related tension. It’s also a good way to try massage for the first time without committing to a full hour.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping uses suction rather than pressure. Where deep tissue massage compresses the muscle downward, cupping lifts the tissue upward — creating space for blood flow and fascial release. It’s particularly effective for back pain and tightness that hasn’t responded to regular massage. We offer 1-hour and 90-minute sessions. If you’ve been dealing with the same tight spot for months, cupping is worth trying.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
The lymphatic system clears waste and excess fluid from the body — but unlike blood, it has no pump. Lymphatic drainage is a very gentle, rhythmic treatment that stimulates this system manually. It’s ideal for anyone who feels puffy or sluggish, or who is recovering from surgery or illness. Also available combined with abdominal massage or facial massage for targeted treatment.

What to Expect at Pepper Leaf Studio, Nenagh
Our massage room is private, quiet and temperature-controlled. Before your treatment, your therapist will ask a few short questions about areas of concern, health conditions, and preferences. Everything you share stays between you and your therapist.
Draping is used throughout — only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time. If anything is uncomfortable during your session, tell your therapist. Adjusting pressure, focus or technique mid-session is completely normal. There’s no obligation to stay with a pressure level that doesn’t feel right.
After your treatment, take a minute before standing up. Drink water when you get home. Massage stimulates circulation and lymph flow, and you may feel temporarily light-headed if you stand up quickly. Most people describe feeling deeply relaxed for the rest of the day.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get a massage?
For general maintenance and stress relief: once a month works well. For a specific problem — chronic back pain, post-injury recovery, or built-up tension — weekly or fortnightly sessions for four to six weeks will produce faster results. Your therapist can advise on a schedule at your first appointment.
Do I need to undress?
Only as much as you’re comfortable with. For a full-body massage, most clients remove outer clothing and lie under a sheet. For a chair massage, you remain fully clothed. There’s no pressure to undress beyond your comfort level.
Is deep tissue massage painful?
Deep tissue can be intense in areas of significant tightness — but it should never be sharply painful. If it is, tell your therapist immediately and they’ll adjust. Mild soreness the next day (similar to post-exercise soreness) is normal and typically clears within 24–48 hours.
Can I get a massage during pregnancy?
Yes — we offer holistic and relaxing massage for pregnancy. Please let us know when booking so we can adapt the treatment. Some techniques are contraindicated in certain stages of pregnancy, which is why we need to know in advance.
